Hydrogen Fueling Station Opens in West LA
On Thursday, June 26, I joined representatives of Shell, General Motors, Hydrogenics, and South Coast Air Quality Management District to celebrate the grand opening of California's first retail hydrogen station. The West Los Angeles station will produce hydrogen on site using LADWP's Green Power.
Hydrogen powered cars have the potential to significantly reduced transportation related vehicle emissions. This would improve air quality and reduce our contribution to climate change.
The widespread adoption of alternative fuel vehicles requires two things: the availability of vehicles and the infrastructure to support those vehicles. I commend Shell for working to develop our next generation of alternative fuel infrastructure.
West Los Angeles is the perfect place to roll out this infrastructure. In a City that has been dominated by polluting automobiles, we are taking positive action to change our ways. We look forward to having more clean technology produced here in Los Angeles. I made sure that all the City departments understood that this project is a top priority, and I am very proud to have this station in my council district.
